“I love pop music. I play pop music. If
there’s 10 seconds of catchiness in a song,
that makes it pop.”
I was at a comics conference in D.C. when
Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt said
the quote above. The audience seemed
unsure if he was joking or sincere. They
were similarly befuddled when he spoke of
his love for superhero comics.
The important point here is to make it your
own. On your own terms and in spaces
you feel comfortable. Take the glorious
parts of your favorite songs and translate
them with your friends.
Too abstract? Well, welcome to
popmayhem 2009 anyway. More localized
